Cell rearrangement eases tissue stress
Full text
This proposed mechanism asks whether a brief mechanical release can leave ageing tissue less damaging after the force returns.
In dense stroma, the supporting tissue around cells, a short drop in cell surface tension may let cells exchange immediate neighbours. The changed contact pattern could retain lower residual stress, internal stress held in tissue, after tension recovers and durably reduce damaging secretion.
The test would compare regions given the same tension reduction: rearrangement is allowed in one and constrained in the other. Lasting benefit only where the neighbour map changes would support the structural explanation. Live contact tracking, traction-force measurements and tissue mechanics would distinguish it from other mechanisms.
