Organelle renewal complements senescent-cell clearance
Full text
Ageing research needs to tell whether several repair targets are separate opportunities or different handles on the same process. This proposed mechanism divides lasting benefit into two loops: organelle renewal, the breakdown and replacement of damaged cell structures in heart and skeletal muscle, and immune clearance, the complete removal of senescent fibroblasts, matrix-making cells locked out of division.
The crucial test concerns R, a second intervention placed in the organelle-renewal loop. The hypothesis predicts that R adds no lasting benefit once completed mitophagy, the recycling of damaged mitochondria, is matched. Specific mediator suppression, restoration and isotope tracing would test whether two independently adjustable repair flows remain.
