Estradiol interruptions renew receptors
Full text
Perimenopause is the transition around menopause, when changing ovarian hormones can alter tissue responses. The hypothesis asks whether pauses in estrogen exposure preserve that responsiveness.
Participant-derived cultures would receive estradiol, an estrogen hormone, constantly or in pulses. Cumulative exposure would match; other steroids would remain constant. Its prediction: tissue function improves only when each low interval exceeds measured recovery time for estrogen receptors, proteins that bind estrogen and guide cell responses.
Equal or better function under constant exposure would reject this account. Testing needs verified exposure patterns and measurements of receptor recovery and tissue function.
