Linked conventions store reversal history
Full text
This proposed hypothesis asks whether cultural conventions remember earlier pressure. Compatibility links, ties between harmless choices, may return a group to its earlier pattern.
An online task would measure switching points, link choices, and cycle pressure A to B, down to C below A, then B and A. It compares intact and randomly reassigned links, keeping rewards and link number fixed.
Independent switching can recreate an earlier state. The hypothesis predicts evidence: loop closure restores the joint pattern, an overshoot disperses the inner trace, and reassigned links alter later switching beyond calibrated models. Resetting the recommendation system tests whether it holds the memory.
