Circadian Phase Gates Treatment Response
Full text
This proposed hypothesis asks whether menopause treatment response can depend on a person’s position in an internal daily biological rhythm, rather than a permanent syndrome label.
It proposes that endocrine treatments, which act through hormones, and nonendocrine treatments, which work by other routes, could trade places in relative benefit as that measured phase changes.
To distinguish this idea from rival explanations, researchers would measure internal phase, randomize sufficiently fast-acting treatments across phases, and assess objective physiological measures. A controlled phase shift should move the predicted response curve with the body’s internal timing rather than civil clock time.
