Treatment reinjures sensory axons
Full text
Repeated fractional skin treatment may leave skin slower to recover because each session could cut regrowing sensory nerve fibres, the branches that carry touch and help regulate repair.
This proposed mechanism predicts delayed return of nerve supply, weaker chemical messages released by nerves, and slower recovery of sensation, barrier and strength even while collagen-making cells continue working. Testing it requires preserving axons while matching injury to other tissues.
