Withdrawal records block stale copies
Full text
A proposed hypothesis asks how a community can stop an old claim resurfacing after its source is withdrawn, yet still pass it on when new evidence supports it.
It proposes a source-specific withdrawal record: people retain which occurrence was withdrawn and which later copies descend from it. It would suppress a stale descendant, a copy inherited from that source, while allowing an independently supported assertion to circulate.
A test would keep message, source confidence, correction understanding, reading opportunity and immediate endorsement constant. It would switch only the withdrawn occurrence, then give participants matched later assertions. The proposed mechanism must beat accounts based on people tracking sources and corrections by a prespecified margin.
