Estrogen receptors redirect p300
Full text
This proposed menopause mechanism asks whether peaks of estradiol, an estrogen hormone, can redirect repair resources. Estrogen receptors, proteins responding to estrogen that regulate gene activity, may draw p300, a helper protein for gene activation, toward receptor-controlled genes.
To test it, researchers would hold estradiol waveforms identical, reduce receptor recruitment of p300, and measure p300 at repair genes and cellular recovery from stress. Support requires a reciprocal pattern: less p300 at receptor-regulated genes, more at repair genes, and improved recovery. If recovery changed without reciprocal redistribution, another explanation would be favored. Cell systems come first; direct human testing awaits a safe method to reallocate p300 selectively.
