Full text

Skin healing may regain toughness through a window. It asks whether late neutrophils, immune cells, reinforce a new basement membrane, a tissue-anchoring layer. A neutrophil enzyme, myeloperoxidase, crosslinked soluble collagen IV, a structural protein, but did not affect mature native membrane. In sterile skin with low peroxidasin, the collagen-IV-linking enzyme, the hypothesis predicts that late neutrophils would increase links and restore resistance to shearing sooner. We would need to isolate myeloperoxidase activity from other inflammatory features.
