Full scientific poster: Calcium counterflows slow skin recovery

Full text

This proposed hypothesis asks if washing, drying, and friction in different orders change how living epidermis, skin's cellular outer layer, recovers from the same load. After washing and drying, calcium pumps restore cells' internal distribution of calcium ions. Friction before recovery is complete could create opposing calcium flows that consume energy and delay the return to normal ion balance, even when adenosine triphosphate, a cell-energy molecule, remains at the same concentration. The test compares identical exposures in different orders and intervals, then matches calcium conditions and recovery speed. If differences in tolerance of a later exposure disappear, it would support the energetic proposal. Persistent protection would favor repair of cell membranes.
