Fusion hypothesis predicts inflammatory relapse
Full text
Inflammation may return after tissue recovery. This hypothesis asks whether rare hybrids trigger relapse.
It proposes fusion of an immune cell with a damaged tissue cell. The hybrid carries both genomes, genetic material from each cell, and could resume inflammatory secretion after conditions normalize.
The test is selective removal: eliminating confirmed hybrids should stop relapse after mild rechallenge; removing equal non-hybrids should leave it intact. Live imaging and single-cell genome sequencing must rule out cell pairs, engulfment and label transfer.
