Capillary blockage delays muscle recovery
Full text
Researchers propose that slow skeletal-muscle recovery during overlapping treatment and infection may arise when capillaries, the tiny vessels feeding tissue, remain blocked.
The model suggests platelet-fibrin plugs, clot material made of platelets and the mesh protein fibrin, interrupt blood flow. That could delay insulin, the hormone that helps cells use glucose, and immune-cell access. Restoring insulin signaling inside muscle cells alone is predicted to leave recovery impaired if the network stays closed.
The test would compare capillary flow and connections with whole-body insulin sensitivity at matched drug exposure and blood glucose.
