Exposure order alters barrier recovery
Full text
This proposed skin hypothesis asks whether irritation and stretching order can change skin-barrier recovery after a challenge.
It proposes keratinocytes, outer-skin cells, and fibroblasts, cells that maintain the layer beneath, retain molecular clocks at different points in their cycles after each sequence.
Separate cultures would receive each sequence, then the same challenge at times over two days. If their response difference reverses with measured clock phase and disappears after confirmed phase alignment, that would support phase memory. A stable difference would favor memory in extracellular matrix, material around cells, or altered distribution of p300, a cellular protein. The test could explain why recovered skin responds differently to stress.
