Testing Whether Perturbations Preserve Practices
Full text
This hypothesis asks if weak disturbance of a workpiece can help practices persist among learners. Material memory is the workpiece’s retained mechanical state after treatment. It could interact with disturbance and learners’ actions.
An experiment compares inherited and reset workpieces, demonstrations retained or removed, and weak disturbances with equal-duration sham treatments, controls that match timing. Material and novice-learning tests set a baseline.
The prediction is an intermediate weak-disturbance range where practices persist beyond predictions from calibrated material memory and ordinary reconstruction, the way novices recreate practices. Reset should remove the pattern; transfer with the workpiece to fresh learners would support the proposal.
