Proposed experiment tests matrix-dependent recovery
Full text
This proposed theory asks whether the body’s tissue scaffold can keep organs from recovering after stress, even while blood-borne chemical signals remain abnormal.
It proposes that the extracellular matrix, material around cells that supports them and carries physical forces, can become mechanically reinforced. Its arrangement and cell-adhesion memory, lasting effects of how cells attach, could preserve a harmful state.
The test would soften the matrix and normalize force transmission while leaving circulating metabolite concentrations uncorrected. It would track recovery across organs after repeated metabolic-immune challenges.
Faster recovery would support, but not establish, an explanation centred on matrix mechanics. Defined controls, timing, measurements, and a connectivity threshold are required.
