YAP restoration targets scarring
Full text
A proposed hypothesis asks if timed skin repair can limit scarring after repeated injury while preserving strength.
It compares continuous suppression of YAP (Yes-associated protein), a repair protein, with temporary suppression and a brief late return. The model predicts this pulse clears damaged myofibroblasts, tension-producing repair cells, through p73, a protein that can trigger programmed cell death.
If disrupting the YAP-p73 interaction removes the benefit, it would support the mechanism. If it persists, gene timing becomes the stronger rival explanation.
