Elon Musk responds to an account of loved ones aging and dying: “Longevity is coming”

On October 30, 2026, the entrepreneur responded to a post about watching a grandfather age and die, then noticing a father's forgetfulness. By the morning of October 31, Musk's reply on X had received more than a million views. People replying asked when life extension would become available and what he was doing to help make it happen.

The post by a user writing under the name FischerKing describes someone watching their grandfather grow old. The grandfather is over ninety: he forgets things, moves more slowly, and can no longer wheel the garbage bin to the curb. Then he dies. Later, the person notices their father becoming forgetful. “And you know it's coming for you too.”

For the person in this account, extending their own life and their father's would mean having more time together.

“When?” Ryan Bethencourt asked Musk. Bethencourt is a co-founder of IndieBio, a program that funds and supports early-stage biotechnology companies. The father in the original account is already becoming forgetful, and his child sees their own future in him. Whether both generations can benefit from life extension depends on when methods to achieve it become available.

An account named Laurie Green asked Musk another question:

“What are you doing to make that happen?”
