Anthropic invites research groups to apply for 8–12 weeks of collaboration on biological questions with its researchers and Claude AI models
Selected teams will pursue their own research questions, with Anthropic covering the cost of running its models and internal software tools. Teams will retain their data rights and can continue the work independently; the company intends to publish the results, supporting data, and code.
On October 22, Anthropic announced an open call for guest investigators in the life sciences. Applications are open to leaders of academic, nonprofit, and government research groups working on human biology, molecules, drug discovery, or clinical research.
Each selected group will spend 8–12 weeks working on its research question with Anthropic researchers. The company commits to running Claude and its internal software tools at its own expense. Applicants must explain why their project needs this collaboration and what initial result they could realistically achieve within that period. Suitable outcomes could include a preliminary scientific finding, an answer to an open question, an open dataset, or a publicly available resource. The application form permits only publicly available information.
The external group retains control of its research question and rights to its data, while Anthropic contributes researcher time, Claude, and software tools.
Nathan Frey, who leads drug discovery research at Anthropic, wrote that scientists should choose their own questions and research methods. The company and selected groups plan to publish results, supporting data, and code, and to prepare preprints, which are scientific manuscripts made available before peer review.
In August, Anthropic offered laboratories a year of access to Claude and the option to request up to 50 thousand dollars in credits per project. The new call adds the selection of a specific research question and collaboration with company researchers to that access.
