Anthropic offers research labs one year of access to its AI assistant Claude and up to 50 thousand dollars in credits per project

The company launched the program on August 27. The first 10 thousand Claude seats will be available to laboratories worldwide. Standard seats are free, while seats with five times the request limit cost 15 dollars per month. An individual research project can apply for up to 50 thousand dollars in credits for AI use.

In June, Anthropic introduced Claude Science, an application for research work. It brings together data, code, and familiar computational tools around the researcher’s task. When the application produces a plot, it saves the code, runtime environment, description of the steps, and message history. Before sending a computational task to a new resource, Claude Science presents its plan and waits for the researcher’s approval.

The new program gives laboratories access to this environment. A verified principal investigator at an academic or nonprofit research group can add colleagues to a team plan for one year. If the allowance for a seat is insufficient, a researcher can submit a separate application to the AI for Science program for additional credits. AI for Science previously supported the biological sciences. Anthropic now accepts applications from other fields as well.

Opus class models are available for biology and chemistry tasks. In August, the Fable model was already routing dual use requests to Opus, meaning requests that could also have harmful applications. It still does not accept professional requests involving biology or drug development. Anthropic is working with the US government to provide life science specialists, including researchers in biology and drug development, with separate access to Mythos models. The first participants have already joined the program.
