Insilico Medicine Reports Its First Profit as Upfront Payments and AI Drug Discovery Deals Drive Revenue Growth
Insilico Medicine reported $35.54 million in net profit for the first half of the year, with drug discovery generating $103.1 million in revenue
On August 26, biotechnology company Insilico Medicine, which uses AI to discover and design drugs, reported $106.3 million in revenue and $35.54 million in net profit from January through June 2026. The company attributed $103.1 million of that revenue to drug discovery and program development.
On July 9, Insilico projected revenue of $102.5–106.5 million and net profit of $33.5–39.5 million for the same six-month period. In its August 26 announcement, the company reported results within those ranges.
In its partnership programs, Insilico uses AI to identify biological targets, which are molecules in the body that a drug is intended to affect, and to design candidate molecules. The agreements may involve licensing these programs or developing them jointly with pharmaceutical companies. The company attributed growth in this business to substantial upfront payments from new deals and milestone payments under existing collaborations. According to Insilico, software solutions generated a further $2.70 million.
A partner makes an upfront payment when signing an agreement, while a milestone payment becomes due when a program achieves a predefined result. Insilico recognized payments for agreed stages of development in its first-half revenue. Pharmaceutical partners make these payments for licensing, joint development, and program advancement, and the company recognizes them as revenue.
Insilico also estimated that the total potential value of deals announced since the beginning of 2026 was approximately $7.3 billion. This figure may include future contingent payments. The $106.3 million figure represents revenue from January through June, while $7.3 billion represents the potential value of the partnership agreements.
