Viome, which sells at-home tests, acquires Circulate Health and its network of more than 200 partner plasma exchange clinics

On August 12, Viome Life Sciences announced its acquisition of Circulate Health. According to GeekWire, the parties valued the deal at $15–50 million. Circulate co-founder and physician Brad Younggren became president of the new Viome PRO clinical group.

Viome sells kits that allow customers to collect saliva, blood, and stool samples at home and send them for analysis. Based on the results, the company recommends personalized supplements and oral care products. Circulate provides physician-prescribed therapeutic plasma exchange.

Therapeutic plasma exchange is a medical procedure in which a machine separates plasma, the liquid component of blood, and returns the blood cells to the circulation with a protein replacement solution. In its press release, Viome describes Circulate as a national network of more than 200 partner clinics.

In a May preprint from GlycanAge and Circulate, plasma exchange was evaluated in a small longitudinal cohort of nine people by tracking changes in a single immune system marker. Viome now gains Circulate's clinical team and partner sites. For Viome PRO, the company describes a sequence consisting of baseline testing, a physician-supervised procedure, and follow-up measurement.

The company links this sequence to a future trial. Younggren described the next step to GeekWire:

“We will continue the research… We now have new tools. We will conduct a trial that combines plasma exchange with all of Viome’s technologies.”
