David Sinclair launches Lifespan.com, a platform combining science media, community, and support for aging research
On August 7, aging biologist David Sinclair announced the formation of Lifespan Group and the launch of its website, Lifespan.com. The new organization brings together Lifespan Magazine, Sinclair's show, educational resources, meetings with scientists, and a membership community. It also supports the Lifespan Foundation, which funds medical and aging research.
Lifespan.com offers readers a structured path through these resources. They can read analyses of research in Lifespan Magazine, listen to scientists and ask them questions through the show and live meetings, then join the community and support research through the foundation. The magazine identifies topics for discussion, the meetings connect the audience with researchers, and the foundation gathers support for new studies.
The magazine begins this process. Readers first receive an analysis of a study, then decide which questions to ask scientists and which research to support.
Sinclair explained the reason for the launch as follows:
“We are entering a period when discoveries in the biology of aging are moving from the laboratory into everyday life, while public understanding is not keeping pace.”
In the magazine's founding editorial, the team promises to provide sources for scientific claims and assess advice according to its reliability, usefulness, and connection to evidence. In this model, the magazine shows readers the evidence behind a claim. A conversation with a scientist allows them to ask questions, while the foundation allows them to support the research they choose.
