Venki Ramakrishnan won the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work on the structure and function of ribosomes (shared with Thomas Steitz and Ada Yonath). He wrote a book about aging.

Allison Aiello introduced the author. She is interim director of the Columbia Aging Center (part of Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health) and holds the James S. Jackson Healthy Longevity Professorship in Epidemiology. In her words, the book brings "the same molecular precision" to questions of aging.
