Marco Demaria and Senolytics

26 September 2026· oLSd1KW9

Marco Demaria studies cellular senescence and therapeutic targeting of senescent cells, but the excerpt supporting his connection to senolytics identifies neither the mouse study it describes nor his role in it.

Marco Demaria and senolytics

Marco Demaria leads a laboratory at the research institute ERIBA. His group studies how senescent cells affect tissue repair, aging, and age-related disease, and how these cells can be therapeutically targeted. Senolytics connect to this work: they are interventions intended to selectively eliminate senescent cells while sparing cells that are not senescent.

The excerpt Eternal Search uses to support Demaria's connection to senolytics reports improved healthspan measures in female mice following senolytic clearance and selective removal of cells bearing the p16+ marker. However, the excerpt does not identify the study or establish whether Demaria participated. It also gives no details about the interventions, measured outcomes, animal ages, control groups, or effect sizes. Whether males were studied is unknown. These omissions prevent us from assessing how convincing the result is.

The senolytics entry describes a separate trial in middle-aged nonhuman primates: monthly dasatinib plus quercetin for six months reduced the expression of genes used as senescence markers in adipose tissue. The authors reported safety over that observation period and called for larger controlled trials in older patients. The trial has no established connection to Demaria. His research interests explain his connection to senolytics, but assessing the mouse result requires the original study.

Why this was published

High-confidence edge (0.99) with a bio that directly explains the link: Demaria's lab explicitly targets senescent cells therapeutically, which is exactly what senolytics do. One concrete mouse finding exists in the stored evidence, but its source is unverifiable from available data, making the connection substantive to explain and honest to caveat.
