Wilbur Ross is an American businessman best known for founding distressed-investment firm WL Ross & Co. and later serving as the 39th U.S. Secretary of Commerce from February 28, 2017 to January 20, 2021. Before government, he built a reputation buying and restructuring troubled companies in steel, coal, textiles, shipping and financial services, earning the nickname "King of Bankruptcy." He has also held board or leadership roles at companies including International Steel Group, International Coal Group, Navigator Holdings and Bank of Cyprus.
