Leroy "Lee" Hood is an American physician-scientist and biotechnology pioneer known for developing key sequencing/synthesis instruments that helped enable the Human Genome Project. He co-founded the Institute for Systems Biology in 2000, later served as senior vice president and chief science officer at Providence St. Joseph Health, and is now CEO of the nonprofit Phenome Health. Hood has also helped found numerous biotech companies, including Amgen, Applied Biosystems, Rosetta, and Arivale.
